On behalf of bitter old men everywhere, I’d like to thank Michael Jordan for participating in the 2009 NBA Hall Of Fame speechin‘. When Jordan should’ve thanked the Bulls’ ex-GM, Jerry Krause, for surrounding him with championship coaches and talent, he ridiculed him. It was me, Jordan was saying. Not him. “The organization didn’t play with the flu in Utah,” Jordan grumbled. Club sports will one day reign supreme.

There’s no way this is real. No way. If it is, Clay Davis is smiling somewhere in Baltimore. Seriously, this can’t be real can it?

If you haven’t checked out Livestrong, it’s the best site I’ve seen so far for tracking everything. They even have sports (like rugby) listed so that you can just pop in the amount of time you spent playing it will throw it into your calorie track. Lots of foods are already logged there, so just type in what you ate and it will more than likely show up. It also   Read More ...

Jennifer is a friend from way back and is homeschooling her kids for the first time this year. Lots of good advice over there, including this: It doesn’t matter if my child is ahead, behind, or right on target, I have to ask “who’s target?” They get there when they are ready. My job is to meet them exactly where their knowledge stops and their curiosity begins. I have to   Read More ...

Driving down last Saturday, I missed the Shuttle launch by a few hours. I was in Macon Ga and could see a small flame going across the sky, but apparently it’s like the sun is coming up when you watch it here. The SIL had to go to CA this morning in case Thursday’s landing is there, but before she left she pointed me towards this schedule for future launches.   Read More ...

Ha… “Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren,” Obama said in a 2006 floor speech that preceded a Senate vote to extend the debt limit. “America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership.” Three cheers for staying on message! Ahh…might as well make the four, six, twelve cheers!

How appropriate that I would wait a day to link to a post about RSS cloud. Real time updates could enable several things. Faster distribution of blog posts, more compelling conversations in real-time and a renewed timeliness for blogging vs. services like Twitter are all likely consequences.

The Missus says I start a lot of sentences with that word, and apparently it’s a thing nerds do while we’re figuring out what we’re going to say next or doing some quick subconscious fact checking. Makes sense, because I don’t do it when I type.

John Mellencamp was writing songs that really were about America and uniquely American. Isn’t it weird how these guys lose their real insight when they try to be insightful? John Mellencamp – New Music – More Music Videos

I was bitten by several ants over the weekend. I think a spider may have been involved too based on the amount of swelling I have. Here’s a guide to treating bites. Of course, I’m not following any of this until I lose control of my facilities, but it’s a good resource.

I keep up with technology, but I’m usually a little late to enter the market on gadgets. I usually prefer to wait to see what kind of devices spring up from competition. In this case, I’m waiting on the Android Hero from Sprint (low cost) instead of jumping onto the iPhone and being forced into a contract with AT&T. Turns out, they may be happy at least one high bandwidth   Read More ...

A Democrat challenger to Obama in 2012? I’d like to see a Colbert/Stewart/Olberman run for the office of Triumvirate. At least it would be funny.

I’ve read a lot of stuff about the benefits of barefoot running. I went for my first barefoot run of any real distance (3m) yesterday on the beach. It was definitely more work on the calves, but I’m not sure if that was from being barefoot or from the sand, which I’m not used to running in. One thing that’s really nice about beach running (at least here) are the   Read More ...

Via Instapundit, an article on how Florida’s government is driving away residents and businesses with oppressive taxes. Well, yeah…isn’t that what happens when you run things like a government? Luckily, there’s at least someone in the State Legislature who wants to run Florida like a business with things like cost-benefit analysis. For politicians, that usually means “how much will it cost the tax payers for me to get the benefit   Read More ...
