How It Should Be: Rewording this post a little bit, true IT/data/digital fluency should be a requirement for the next generation of leaders in most companies.

How It Is: Often, even IT leadership doesn’t understand the technology they are leading.

The gateway to the C-level job used to be an MBA, but maybe it should be an engineering degree. Instead, we give the engineering leadership jobs to MBAs. I think it’s because they are abundant, and they speak the language of those making the decision.

It’s bass ackwards.
