Stuff You Should See– January 7th through January 11th

Twitter’s traffic in trouble? – Scoble has a ton of advice for Twitter. My advice for Twitter: be Twitter and nothing else. Get rid of the 140 character limit? No way! Add comments? No way! Besides, do we really think Twitter could implement all these things without Fail Whaling left and right. Just be Twitter and be good at it, thanks!

Lang Wiseman: Vols | Kansas – DISCLAIMER: Lang Wiseman is one of my all-time favorite basketball players. I was at U.T. during the Wade Houston era, and it was pretty easy to tell at that time who was giving effort and who wasn’t. When Wiseman starts giving out ‘atta boys for hard work and determination, he’s doing it from an experienced perspective. HT Silence.

Netflix might still be coming to the Wii – That’d be cool with me.

Annoying Facebook Friends and Profiles – I’m like the Sybil of Facebook, with apparently at least 18 different personalities.

The Geography of Recession – I feel much better knowing we have a connected river system. For a minute there I was like, “whoa!”. Seriously, this is a pretty interesting take on the economic systems of different geographic areas.

What Your Bra Color Facebook Status Update Says About You – I’m glad I’ve yet to participate in the phenomenon.

A phpBB to bbPress database converter « – But first you have to install 0.7, convert, then upgrade to 0.8, then upgrade to 1.02. Ironically, it seems completely worth it.

The 7 Harsh Realities of Social Media Marketing – Some good stuff here

Can the Government Save the Airlines? – What the airlines need are a few more stylin', profilin', limousine riding, jet flying, kiss-stealing, wheelin' n' dealin' sons of guns like Ric Flair!

Post Rapture Pets – No matter what you do or don't believe, you have to admit this is a smart business model.

There’s No Excuse For This – Windows mobile 6.5 – Just to needle @raowen: "It's an interim product, and a vain attempt to hold onto the thinning ranks people who still choose Windows Mobile despite not being somehow tethered to it until the tardy Windows Mobile 7 comes out, whenever that may be."

Moore proves Libertarians right – And being a libertarian is downright heart breaking: "I'd imagine it's like being a Cubs fan, except there usually isn't much hope for next year."

The iDontFart App – Proceed to AT&T store. There's now a reason to own an iPhone.

UT’s Supercomputer Breaks Petascale – Let loose the Kraken! My sources are telling me that a poor ol' country boy's head just exploded in the UTCC.

Apple Quits Chamber Of Commerce Over Global Warming – Apple isn't stupid. They realize there's too much green to be made in "green" to even begin to question it. This is a marketing and sales decision, not an environment/community decision.

What if Only the Rich Recover? – WSJ – Don't call it a comeback!

Delicious Link Dump– October 5th through October 6th

The Cocoa Beach Air Show | Metromix Brevard – If you aren’t able to get tickets to the Brevard/Miami rugby match this weekend, here’s another option.

Knoxville Rugby at Heart of Dixie Tournament – Look for Okie and Colonel Kurtz to make return appearances. We cannot guaranteed gravel slinging pickup trucks or soiled sofas.
Indian farmer’s daughter is most bad-ass woman in the world – Boing Boing – In a phenomenally bad-ass series of moves worthy of a Tarantino screenplay, 21-year-old Rukhsana Kausar attacked him with an axe, then shot him dead with his own gun.
Kids leave mother passed out drunk in minivan FLORIDA TODAY – So sad.

The Vampire Economy

Sorry, this isn’t a post about True Blood or Twilight.

But Vampire Economy would make a great gift for anyone who is into the horror genre. I mean, this sounds pretty scary, doesn’t it?

The national demand for “stimulus” replaced private decision making entirely, as businessmen were required to produce and avoid any economic downturns that might embarrass the state.

Ironically, this isn’t about 21st century economics in the United States. Yet.

Money For Nothing – Inflation Explained

Head over to The Liberty Papers for a great explanation of inflation and what you may be able to do about it.

Quick synopsis:

  • Higher prices are a result of inflation. The inflating occurs when the money is printed.
  • Inflation has a trickle down effect…sort of like sewage. Those who are close to the money when it is printed, (for instance, people who get paid to build roads through the Stimulus plan)  get to buy materials before prices rise, those who are further down the money food chain pay high prices.
  • If you think you are poor and oppressed now, just wait.

The primary misconception of inflation is that it merely is the rise in prices.  The news media encourages people to believe this, reporting the inflation rate in the same way it reports on changes in the weather, as if it is some natural phenomenon over which people have no control.

Definitely worth your time to read the entire article.

‘Splaining the Fed to Star Wars Geeks

Darth Greenspan:

Anakin Skywalker was a tremendously talented young boy discovered by Obi Wan Kenobi, who initially believed that Anakin was the “Chosen One” foretold by a Jedi prophecy to bring balance to the Force and restore harmony to the universe.

Greenspan reminds me more of Mel Brooks in Spaceballs, but it’s a pretty interesting analogy. Read it all if this is the kind of thing than interests you.
